FAQ
What is self defence?
Self defence is not a sport or a competition.
Self defence is about keeping yourself and the people around you safe.
While many people think of self defence as fighting, the reality is that effective self defence begins long before a physical confrontation takes place. Awareness, confidence, communication and good decision-making are often the most important skills a person can develop.
The goal of self defence is not to win a fight. The goal is to avoid danger
where possible, protect yourself when necessary and get home safely.
Krav Maga teaches practical skills that can help people respond to real-world situations. This includes recognising potential threats, managing conflict, setting boundaries, escaping from danger and, when there is no other option, using simple and effective techniques to create an opportunity to get away.
In the UK, the law recognises that people have the right to protect themselves and others.
Any force used must be
reasonable and proportionate to the situation. However, self defence is not about seeking confrontation or taking matters into your own hands. It is about protecting yourself when faced with an immediate threat.
At Krav Maga Principle, our focus is on building confidence, awareness and practical skills in a safe and supportive environment. We welcome people of all backgrounds, abilities and experience levels, whether you’re looking to improve your personal safety, develop confidence or learn an effective self-defence system
What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is for everyone but like anything new you are starting, it’s always good to try a trial class first. You will get taught the fundamentals and this will help you with your progression.
It takes time and patience to become fully equipped and competent in sparring, this if for the safety of all our members. But you’ll get there and your efforts are rewarded should you wish to complete a grading certification.
Why is Krav Maga different?
Krav Maga isn’t a martial art, or combat sport it’s a practical self-defence and fighting system developed in the military and adapted for civilians. Unlike any other martial arts Krav Maga is based on real life scenario conflict management and defence.
FAQ 1: Not a real self defence system?
The Question:
How does the Krav Maga curriculum at our Hayes club ensure realistic self-defence training?
The Answer:
At Krav Maga Principle, we bridge the gap between compliance drills and reality. While we practice stress drills to replicate the adrenaline of a sudden street assault, we integrate controlled, progressive sparring. This ensures our students build live timing, resistance, and genuine fighting confidence without sustaining unnecessary injuries.
FAQ 2: No Quality Control
The Question:
Is the Krav Maga trained at this club officially certified and consistent?
The Answer:
Yes. A major industry criticism of self-defence is the lack of quality control in some uncertified schools. Krav Maga Principle is fully certified, ensuring that our curriculum is direct, regularly updated, and aligns with the highest international training standards from Krav Maga Global. Our focus is pure real world self-defence, not sport.
No competition no trophies, just technique, decision making and the confidence to act, whilst you get fit, build strength and have fun.
FAQ 3: Krav Maga vs. MMA/Boxing
The Question:
How does Krav Maga differ from a combat sport like MMA or Boxing?
The Answer:
Combat sports are fantastic for fitness and have strict rules, weight classes, and referees. Krav Maga is an empty-hand system designed purely for urban self-defence where there are no rules, weight classes, or rings. We train our students to neutralise threats quickly and escape safely, making it highly practical for everyday safety.
It’s not about strength and being able to take down your match. Its about neutralising threats, using leverage, awareness and simple techniques that work under pressure.
